What Industries use Flow Jet Pumps

A flow jet pump is also known as an injector pump, a steam ejector, a steam injector, an eductor jet pump, and a thermocompressor. It is a pump device that makes use of the Venturi effect to convert pressure energy to velocity energy, and is used to move a variety of different materials around from one place to another.
Standard modern flow jet pumps consist of a motive fluid inlet nozzle and a converging diverging outlet nozzle, which are capable of moving water, air, steam, and other fluids at high pressure by passing them through the throat of the injector. Injector pumps are used in a range of different industries, due to their wide range of industrial and commercial applications. For example, because flow jet pumps are able to move around materials as diverse as gas, oil, and water, they are used throughout the gas and energy industries.

In order to understand the modern use of flow jet pumps and similar mechanisms, it is important to understand the history of these devices and how they came into existence. The modern injector was originally developed for use in the boilers of steam locomotives, where they were used to inject and pump feedwater into the boiler. While the innovative and unfamiliar mode of operation meant they were not totally accepted in the community, it was not long before they became used often in a range of industrial applications. As time went on, injectors or flow jet pumps became more efficient and more widely used, through the development of multi stage injector systems which were powered by exhaust steam from the cylinders rather than live steam itself. Due to their relative simplicity and flexibility in a range of applications, flow jet pumps continue to be used today in a range of different industries.

One of the main applications for flow jet pumps is to inject chemicals into boiler drums for low pressure boilers. They are also used in thermal power stations to help remove boiler bottom ash and fly ash from electrostatic precipitators. Other applications include their use circulating coolant fluid in boiling water nuclear reactors, helping to handle grains and other granular materials, and in aircraft to provide vacuum for gyroscopic instruments. Flow jet pumps are also commonly used as dedicated well pumps, as a way to extract water and oil from shallow and deep wells.
